Evaluation of Differently Processed Maggot (Musca domestica) Meal as a Replacement for Fishmeal in Broiler Diets

چکیده
The high cost of imported fishmeal as animal protein source is one the limiting factors in raising broiler chickens particularly Nigeria. Maggots are housefly larvae that rich which could be used alternative to production. This study assessed differently processed Maggot Meal (MM) replacement for broilers diet a completely randomized design. A total 144 day old Arbor Acre were randomly divided into 4 treatments. Each treatment (of 36 birds) was replicated thrice 12 birds per replicate. produced using blood and wheat offal substrates ratio 4:1 either mango or intestinal flies attractant. maggots matured within 5days harvested. by sun-drying, oven drying roasting. Four experimental diets formulated study. corn-soybean meal based contained denoted control. Sun dried MM, MM roasted replaced wholly denoting T1, T2 T3, respectively. Data collected on maggot yield, growth performance, nutrient digestibility serum enzymes birds. analyzed One-Way Analysis Variance. results showed yield from fly attractant more than highest crude (CP) observed (43.75%). Broiler fed had final body weight comparable (P > 0.050) = 0.011) CP (70.68%). Serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) significantly 0.002) elevated sun meals. In conclusion, processing roasting best enhanced without any deleterious effect enzymes.

Housefly Maggot Meal (Magmeal): An Emerging Substitute of Fishmeal in Tilapia Diets
Several feed ingredients have been investigated in an attempt to substitute fishmeal in the diets of fish and livestock. These include both animal protein and plant protein sources. Unfortunately attempts to use these ingredients for complete replacement of the fishmeal component in tilapia diets have not entirely been successful. A major reason is the suboptimal content of essential amino acid...

1 Two trials were conducted to evaluate sesame seed meal (SSM) replacement of broiler diets ingredients. The 1 st trial included 5 major dietary treatments using 360 day old Ross commercial broilers: 1) Corn + soybean meal (SBM) "control diet"; 2) Corn + SSM; 3) Corn + [50% SBM + 50% SSM]; 4) Corn + [25% SBM + 75% SSM]; and 5) Corn + [75% SBM + 25% SSM]. Each treatment was then divided into 4 s...
متن کاملA Model for Substitution of Fishmeal with Maggot- Meal in Tilapia Feeds - A Commercial Production Farm in West Africa
Intensive tilapia production (Oreochromis niloticus) is an emerging industry in West Africa. Access and availability of economically viable formulated commercial fish feeds are major constraints. The availability and cost of animal source ingredients such as fishmeal (FM), typically used in limited amounts to ensure balanced diets and high performance, is a global issue. Research has been condu...

An experiment was conducted to determine apparent ileal digestibility of crude protein (CP) and amino acids (AA) and digestible CP and AA of fish meal (FM) in 21-d-old broiler chickens using the regression technique. Four diets containing 0, 1, 2, and 3% FM in place of cornstarch were formulated with FM as the sole contributor of CP and AAs in the sequential diets. Eighty 14-d-old broiler chick...
متن کاملEvaluation of the House Fly Musca domestica as a Mechanical Vector for an Anthrax
Anthrax is a disease of human beings and animals caused by the encapsulated, spore-forming, Bacillus anthracis. The potential role of insects in the spread of B. anthracis to humans and domestic animals during an anthrax outbreak has been confirmed by many studies. Among insect vectors, the house fly Musca domestica is considered a potential agent for disease transmission. In this study, labora...
